Picture a Week

I'm going to try a new thing where I post a picture or sketch a week. I have a strong feeling I'll forget or end up being too lazy to post, but I'll give it a go.

Here's today's, a Vaguely Militaristic Seal.

Punchline: Terrible

He doesn't have a nose, which I quite like.

Also, I'm in love with this.

5000 Words

Since I have nothing interesting to say, I thought I'd post a couple of my arts. Apologies for the quality of some of these; they're photos of drawings, which doesn't work well, but I don't have a scanner with me at university.

Also, I have no idea wtf is going on with the hover effects on the images. Damned pre-made themes.

Renewed respect for polar adventurers and the homeless.

Granted I only walked for half an hour, and it wasn't in anywhere near freezing temperatures or anything serious like that, but I feel I have just faced possibly the most physically trying experience of my life. Jesus, there is a storm outside like nobody's business and my mascara is all to fuck. Traumatic, to say the least.

2008, from a more sober perspective.

Apparently 2008 is the Year of the Drunk LiveJournal Posts in the nerd zodiac, because everything up until this point has been written under the influence of quite a lot of booze. Luckily I've had time between parties to dry out and am currently completely sober. LiveJournal seems a lot more daunting than it did when I was 16 (or full of vodka), possibly because now I'm aware that having a blog almost automatically makes you a twat. But I'm going to give it another go. Mainly because, let's face it, I've got a bit of a thing about overstated twattery.

Today I found some short stories, here, which I enjoyed, and read them to avoid having to do any work on my dissertation, which is due in 9 days.

2008.

Apparently I posted while I was drunk the other night. Well... Kevin made me drink champagne and play guitar hero and dance to Erasure. So.

Of Long Absences and Self-Doubt

So... erm, haven't posted in a while. I've been thinking about getting back into blogging for a while - what better date than this? I've just  managed to get horrendously drunk on £10 and had my coat  stolen. Awesome. Ugh.

Onwards...

Well, on Saturday night, I bought myself a domain: PuppyPizza.com, so as of now, I shall be 'blogging over there.

I'm sorry to leave LiveJournal, as I think it's a fantastic service, but there are some things that I'd have liked to be able to do that I can't. Since buying a domain and getting a paid LJ account were about the same price, I made a judgement call.

Anyway, PuppyPizza.com it is.

Of Christmas Dances and Exotica Music

Well, I haven't been doing very much for the past few days. Had lots of homework which I've done very little of. Hum. Kevin and I have resolved to download Volumes One and Two of Two Zombies Later, so he's getting the first and I'm getting the second.

The school Christmas Dance, my excuse to dress up pretty-like for the year, is coming up on the 17th. The Christmas Dance is like a big ceilidh with Scottish dancing and all, and we're all going out for a meal beforehand, since it's our last dance before we leave school. I'm all organised, (wearing this dress) except that the shoes I ordered were too big, and didn't match each other, so we had to send them back. They'll probably be here in time, but it doesn't really matter anyway, as I'll probably have to take them off to dance. :P

Of Nicknames and Various Fetishes

I've just been browsing Nerve.com, a site which Kevin recommended. Read these three stories, of which I liked the second the best.

It seems I've earned myself a new nickname at school. While filling in our Yearbook forms (favourite food, song, band, phrase etc) I was stumped for a nickname, and so asked those sitting in the common room with me to suggest one. Unfortunately, they chose "cocksucker" (or Beth "I love a swollen phallus" Lloyd) and even more unfortunately, it seems to have caught on. :/

Of "Practice" Deaths and Perceptions of Time

Had a meeting with my English teacher today to discuss my Personal Study - a 4000 word dissertation on two books of our choice. The result was thus:

"Autobiography, fiction and metafiction:

A Study of the relationship between fiction and autobiography in 'Slaughterhouse 5' and 'Lanark'.

In this dissertation, I intend to examine the forms in which fiction and autobiography appear in the two chosen novels and to evaluate the unique effects created by their combiantion."

Should be fun.

Of Firmware and Sleepy Poems

I had a lovely day today. It was just a regular Wednesday, but for some reason it felt like more fun.

*sighs contentedly* Just finished a bit of housekeeping work in iTunes. The ID3 tags were a bit muddled, which was leading to confusion and duplication. Then I finally got round to making myself a sleepy playlist for use with Desdemona my iPod and her sleep timer function, which I use almost nightly. For some reason, my On The Go playlists still delete even though I have the newest firmware for my iPod, and I was getting sick of putting in the same playlist every time.

I think I'll go to bed soon, as I didn't get to sleep till 3.30am this morning, because I had to finish a poem for my Advanced Higher English class. If it was any good at all, I'd post it here, but it was shit. Maybe after I've redrafted it I'll deem it fit for the world outside room E1.

A new craze seems to have swept the common room, namely tricking people into saying the same thing twice and then mocking them by shouting "Two times!" in their faces. It's strangely compelling.

Of Nerds and Paedophilia

Kevin's gone to London. According to his blog, he was online earlier in the day, but I was napping then, so I missed him. Just got a text from him; he's playing a "nerd game" with John and his friends.

I'm watching Charles II, which has the evil guy from A Knight's Tale in it. He's hot. Apparently, a few of the cast of the HP films is in this; Sean Biggerstaff who played Oliver Wood (rarr) and Christian Coulson who played Tom Riddle (rarr) to name a few.

According to Mugglenet Tom Felton is 6'1", which seems like a good height to me. I wonder how tall Daniel Radcliffe is now...

I've been trying to decide what to get for Christmas. I think I'll go for a GameCube. I haven't had a console since the PlayStation first came out, and there are a couple of games out at the moment that I really want. SSX 3 looks superb, it got a fantastic review at Gamespot and I must try Quidditch World Cup, even if it is supposed to be a bit shit. I'd also like to try Animal Crossing, as it looks like a happy, stress-free game and Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds because my obsession knows no bounds.

Of Wooly Hats and Gameshows

John has posted an intelligent and very well written article on his blog, which I enjoyed and thoroughly agree with. Go read it.

[info]plastic_rabbit is going to London tomorrow to stay with John. I wanted to go, but I am poor. :(

I bought myself a hat today. It's grey with sequins on. I like it, but I've been getting stick from my mum and sister for it. They're just jealous.

We're watching some awful gameshow. Mum says it's called "Give a Mink a Villa", but I think she might be lying.

Of Giant Toads and Fluttering Swans

At Kevin's prompting, I downloaded the PoA trailer that WB accidentally uploaded. I was suitably impressed.

Some thoughts: Music is lovely, goes with the mood beautifully. Liked the whole Macbeth thing. Am not pleased because Draco looks like a ned. :( Much squeeing for Neville and his grown-up-ness. Alan Rickman in a skirt! I take back everything I said about Gary Oldman as Sirius - he's going to be great. Undecided on the Dementors as yet - the cloak was fantastic but I'm not sure about the hand. Daniel Radcliffe - buh.

I have a feeling that Alfonso Cauron is going to be better for the HPverse than Chris Columbus. The first two seemed a bit flat, but this one looks like it's going to be great. I can't wait for it. :)

Much Aching

Unh. I am not well. Went to the doctor yesterday, who said I have 'flu. (Actual real 'flu, not what people think they have when they have a bad cold. *cough*dad*cough*)

I'm not really in the mood to do anything, except indulge my love of crappy movies. Yesterday I watched The Beverly Hillbillies movie. Again. It's one of those films, along with such classics as Drop Dead Fred and Watership Down, that my sister and I used to watch all the time. Made me feel a little better. I also watched the Rocky Horror Picture Show, which made me happy. I was interested to find out that the guy who played Rocky Horror has shied away from publicity and now owns an antique shop in England.

Supreme Lack of Motivation

I am so bored. And I have a really nasty cough. And I have English homework. And tomorrow, I have to meet with Her Majesty's Inspectors with the rest of the Head and Senior Prefects and some other pupils and talk about the school board. And I have to get an announcement put in the bulletin to make sure that people remember to go to that meeting. And episodes of Buffy (I heart Andrew) take a really, really long time to download on 3.13kbps dialup. And, uh... I can't think of anything else to say.

Hm, that helped, I think.

Of Jelly Beans and Carrots

Urg. You know when you've got a massive jar of jelly beans and you know you should stop eating because you're starting to feel sick, but then your hand subconsciously goes for another jelly bean?

I want another carrot. They are so. good.
